American Mensa Gathering In Full Swing In Fort Worth
FORT OWRTH (CBSDFW.COM) - It's a conference said to include "thought-provoking programs," and since it's the annual gathering of Mensa members, it probably will.
American Mensa's 2013 Annual Gathering is being called "Culture in Cowtown."
Kinky Friedman kicked off the start of the event on Wednesday.
The 51st annual gathering, that runs through Sunday, will have attendees taking part in everything from Game Theory to learning the history of the Chickasaw Nation.
One attendee said having a conversation with some members is sort of like playing chess. "There's a certain speed that takes off and if you don't grab on to that fast enough sometimes you get lost in the conversation. It's real easy to do, because it moves very, very fast," she said.
Another member described conference members a bit more conservatively. "Here you know that you're going to be talking to somebody who is reasonably intelligent, and usually has a good vocabulary," he said.
To qualify as an American Mensa member you'll have to have scored in the top two percent of the general population on an accepted, standardized intelligence test.
Think you have what it takes? The public is invited to take the Mensa Test to qualify for membership. The admission test will be held Saturday morning in the grand ballroom of the Worthington Renaissance Hotel in downtown Fort Worth. The tests costs $20 and includes a one-day pass to the annual gathering.
