American Eagle Flight Makes Emergency Fort Worth Landing
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - For the second time in two weeks there's an emergency situation on an American Eagle flight. This time the plane made an emergency landing at a Fort Worth Air Force base.
American eagle flight 4746 had only been in the air about 15 minutes when a problem was reported. "It [the plane] left DFW [Airport] this morning en-route to San Angelo," explained Don Ray at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth. And about 9:28 a.m. we received work that it needed to land here. It did, without incident."
The decision to land was reportedly made after the crew smelled something burning. "The cause of the incident right now is reported smoke in the cockpit," said Ray. "Obviously, they declared an emergency and would land at the closet airfield."
The passengers were taken off the plane given something to eat and then bused back to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. There were 33 passengers and four crewmembers on the plane.
No one was injured.
American Eagle spokesperson Ed Martelle said with the airline flying 1,700 flights per day there are sometimes going to be mechanical issues. "It's not endemic. It's not a huge problem. It's just something that does occasionally happen," he said.
Last week, an American Eagle flight about to take off at Willard Airport just outside Champaign, Illinois, bound for DFW Airport, was evacuated after someone noticed a smoke smell in the cockpit.
