American Airlines Wants Pilots Contract Tossed
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Representatives from American Airlines parent company AMR are heading back to bankruptcy court in New York City on Tuesday morning, hoping that a judge will throw out their contract with the Allied Pilots Association. The Fort Worth based air carrier asked for the contract to be tossed last month after the two sides could not come to an agreement. However, the judge ruled in favor of the pilots.
American Airlines appealed that decision, and said that it has now cleared up issues where the judge had concerns. If the court sides with the airline on Tuesday, that could obviously result in big changes for employees.
Pilots could face reduced pay and benefits, longer hours, less sick time and a reduction in the company's pension plan. If that happens, officials with the Allied Pilots Union said that they will talk to members about a strike.
American Airlines has been able to reach deals with other unions, keeping those battles out of the courtroom.
