American Airlines Unions Picket Outside DFW Airport
NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - More than 100 flight attendants and other supporters are picketing outside of Terminal D at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport today. The group is at the airport supporting the US Airways bid to merge with American Airlines.
The protesters carried signs and placards, chanted about ending corporate greed and shouted that their plan would protect more jobs.
"It's heartbreaking really," said Dina Edmonds, who has been a flight attendant at American for 30 years. "I've devoted so many years to making this company great and to see management make wrong choices and wrong decisions."
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins joined the picketers and said he supports a merger even though the Greater Dallas Chamber doesn't.
"We can't always agree on everything, but I stand for a North Texas economy," the judge said. "If we were to lose thousands of North Texas jobs to other countries and shrink the workforce here in North Texas, that would be bad not just for these people but for all of North Texas."
As far as the union contracts go Edmonds said, "The negotiations haven't even been negotiations. It's been a 'take it or leave it.' Seems like the labor unions always end up paying."
The picket line included members of other American Airlines unions, including Transport Workers.
