American Airlines November Traffic Up 4.3 Percent
FORT WORTH (AP) - American Airlines said Friday its traffic rose 4.3 percent in November from a year earlier, led by a surge in Pacific flights.
The airline flew paying passengers 9.9 billion miles last month, compared with 9.49 billion miles in November 2009. Traffic in the Pacific jumped 21.4 percent. Latin American traffic rose 8.3 percent. Traffic across the Atlantic rose the least, at 1.1 percent more than a year ago.
System-wide capacity, or the number of available seats, rose 3.2 percent last month. American's occupancy rate rose less than 1 percentage point, as fuller flights in the Pacific were offset by minimal gains in other areas of the world.
So far this year, traffic is up 2.6 percent. American's number of available seats has risen less than 1 percent, while its occupancy rate rose 1.3 percentage points to 82 percent.
