American Airlines Expanding In-Flight Video Offerings
FORT WORTH (AP) - American Airlines said on Wednesday that it will expand its inflight streaming video to about 400 Internet-equipped planes by the end of next year.
American currently has streaming video available on 15 of its 767s, which are mostly used on flights between Kennedy airport in New York and Los Angeles and San Francisco. American said it will add streaming video on more than 90 of its MD-80s by the end of this year and on more MD-80s and on 737-800s by the end of next year.
American sells Internet service on some of its flights. The video offering that American is expanding allows passengers to use their own device such as a laptop or iPod to buy and watch TV shows or movies without paying for full in-flight Internet access.
Introductory prices are 99 cents for a TV show and $3.99 for a movie, which comes with a free Internet session on the customers's next flight.
Shares of Fort Worth-based AMR Corp., which owns American, rose 10 cents, or 2.9 percent, to close at $3.55.
