Police: Waco Mother Forgot Children Were At Daycare When Reporting Them As Kidnapped

WACO, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - Two children have been found and are safe after an Amber Alert was issued out of Waco early Thursday morning. Police now say the children are in the custody of Child Protective Services after further investigating the case.

Four-year-old T'Shanti Battle and 3-year-old Thariyah Battle were reported as kidnapped in Waco after their mother said she couldn't find them after waking up late Wednesday evening. She had reported that they may be with a man who she knew.

The two children were eventually located safely Thursday morning.

After further investigation, police now say the mother's original report did not match with what actually happened. She originally said she fell asleep at around 1 p.m. Wednesday and then woke up at around 11 p.m. when she said the girls were gone.

According to police, the mother forgot that she took her two girls to daycare on Wednesday and had left them there. The daycare staff tried to contact her multiple times that day but were unsuccessful.

Police say one of the daycare workers took the two girls home and took care of them.

After reports and the Amber Alert came out for the children, the daycare staff called Waco police to let them know where the girls were.

Police say they went to the children's home and found "less than favorable living conditions." Police called CPS to help with the case.

The children are now in custody of CPS as the investigation continues.
