Amazon Holds Career Fair In Dallas To Help Fill 30,000 Jobs Across US
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - It's Amazon career day in Dallas as the company holds events across the U.S. to fill 30,000 full- and part-time jobs.
"Today is all about people who want to come and work at Amazon, and get an inside peek at what Amazon is like to work for. People who come today will have nuggets of information that they wouldn't get on-line, explained said Laura Gunning, a spokeswoman for Amazon.
The online shopping giant said the event in Dallas is one of six events happening throughout the nation in hopes of filling positions ahead of the busy holiday season.
The job fair was held Tuesday at the Frontiers of Flight Museum at 6911 Lemmon Avenue from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The catch however --no actual jobs were offered on-site.
The event offered a chance to learn about potential positions and jobs—mingle with recruiters. But there were no one-on-one job application interviews there. But that didn't stop turning the Lemmon Avenue area near Love Field into a maze of gridlock and congestion.
Job seekers traveled from other states and other parts of the state for the event.
"I recently left my last job, and this was the first thing we saw out the gate,"said job applicant Margot Stevenson."Dallas isn't that far from Austin, so we came up here to see what it's all about."
According to Amazon, there are more than 1,300 jobs currently available in Dallas and other parts of Texas.
The company is also hiring for the new Amazon Regional Air hub at Fort Worth Alliance Airport that will open in October.
