Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Given Postseason Ban
CORPUS CHRISTI (AP) - The NCAA has banned the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team from next year's postseason for failing to meet academic standards.
Athletic director Scott Lazenby said Wednesday in a statement that the school was "incredibly disappointed'' by the NCAA's decision because the program had already punished itself by imposing scholarship reductions for both last season and next.
The NCAA punished the school for failing to meet minimum academic standards when it came to graduation and retention rates.
The penalty bars the Islanders from competing in the Southland Conference tournament next spring. The Islanders won the tournament in 2007 to clinch a spot in its first and only NCAA tournament.
