Allmendinger Tested Positive For Adderall
NEW YORK (CBS SPORTS) - Suspended driver A.J. Allmendinger says he tested positive for prescription Adderall. According to a report by ESPN, Allmendinger said a friend handed him a pill and stated it was a workout supplement that would give him energy. He later tested positive for a prohibited substance as part of NASCAR's random drug testing policy and was subsequently suspended indefinitely.
Adderall is typically prescribed for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, which Allmendinger does not have a prescription for treatment.
Allmendinger agreed to enter NASCAR's "Road to Recovery" program in an attempt to get back into the sport at some point.
Allmendinger told FOX Sports that the day he was informed by NASCAR at Kentucky Speedway that he would not race after testing positive is one he'll never forget as long as he lives. "It was the moment that I was sitting in the NASCAR hauler and they said, 'You're not racing today,' " Allmendinger said. "I said to them, 'Well, I guess my career is ending right now if that's the case.' I was shocked because I didn't know what it could have been. I was lost."
