Allen's Kyler Murray Named AP Player Of Year In Texas
DALLAS (AP) — Allen High School's Kyler Murray, who has a 41-0 record as the starter and is trying to win a third straight state championship, is the Texas Associated Press Sports Editors Player of the Year.
The son of former Texas A&M quarterback Kevin Murray, who plans to play for the Aggies, was a unanimous choice for the award announced Friday. The ballot included the 10 offensive and defensive players of the year in the five classifications of the AP's all-state teams.
Murray has accounted for 14,146 yards rushing and passing in his career with 181 combined touchdowns. He is the third straight quarterback to win the AP honor.
Allen takes a 42-game winning streak into the Class 5A Division I championship game against Cypress Ranch on Saturday night in Arlington.
