Allen Eagles Kick Off Season In New Stadium
ALLEN (CBSDFW.COM) - High school football in Texas has hit a new high in Allen where the Eagles kicked off the start of the season in their new stadium, their new $60 million stadium.
"Oh, I love it. I think it's fantastic. I really do," said Dwyan Dozier.
"It's got everything you could want in a stadium, especially for a high school, you know?
Eagle stadium seats 18,000. The old one seated 7,000. Another 7,000 bleacher seats had to be rented.
"When we sat at the other stadium, we were packed in so tightly," Rebecca Wlburn said.
No sushi here. But there are 42 concession stands with all the chicken and barbeque and game type food you can eat.
The lines were long...but not for the bathrooms. There are 192 in the new stadium. There were only 12 in the old.
"When I first read about how many restrooms and concession stands they had, I said, 'Well, that's a top notch facility there!'" Ken Fratt said.
One thing you can't possibly miss is the scoreboard. It is 75' x 45' and cost $1.3 million which, Allen ISD says, is covered by sponsors.
It is Texas. But, is it Texas excess?
"Not excess. Texas big. Texas big is what I like to call it," said Dwyan Dozier.
The Allen Eagles won big this night too, beating their nemesis, the Southlake Carroll Dragons 24-0.
Final attendance for the game was 21,766. The Allen Eagle Varsity football schedule shows five home games. They're sure to be sell outs.
