Alleged Robber Uses BB Gun During Lewisville Bank Heist
LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - A man is in jail after a bank robbery and chase ended with a crash in Lewisville.
The allegedly incident happened around the lunch hour when a masked man, armed with what looked like a handgun, demanded money from a teller at the Comerica Bank in the 4700 block of State Highway 121 Business, near Main Street.
After stealing an undisclosed amount of money the suspect took off from the bank in a car.
According to Lewisville Police Department Captain Kevin Deaver, about 15 minutes after the robbery, "Officers responding to that location located the suspect vehicle [and] attempted a traffic stop on it. The vehicle then fled and a pursuit ensued."
The chase took authorities up and down Interstate-35 and through several neighborhoods.
Denton County Sheriff's Sergeant Roger Griggs said pursuing cops lost the reported bank robber for a while.
"The suspect vehicle went off road and for a time was parallel to a railroad track," explained Griggs. "They were able to pick up the pursuit when he got back on the road."
Police said the continued to pursue the suspect through the residential areas out of fear he might use his weapon to take hostages.
Ultimately the suspect crashed out. "[Officers] pursued the vehicle on Valley Ridge Boulevard to Mill Street, where the suspect lost control of his vehicle and stuck a civilian's vehicle," said Deaver.
The innocent driver hit by the suspect's car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. No one else was injured.
Police were also able to recover the money and it was then they discovered the suspect had used a BB-gun for the alleged bank robbery.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, remained in jail Thursday afternoon.
