DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Community tips lead to the arrest of Brandon Alexander Tarrant today on a charge of attempted aggravated sexual assault.

A woman walking from her car to her apartment at the Swissaire Apartments on February 28 was attacked by an armed man, police said they believe is Tarrant. As the victim walked toward the complex, he allegedly approached her on the sidewalk, smiled at her and immediately tackled her. As they struggled on the ground he attempted to sexually assault her.

The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon but she fought him off while screaming for help. Seconds later, a concerned citizen who heard the cry for help responded and the suspect fled the location, according to police.

Dallas Police Department spokesman Major Max Geron said the suspect had attempted to get into the apartment complex before the woman arrived.

Police released surveillance video a day after the assault in hopes it would help them catch the sexual predator. DPD received an overwhelming number of tips from citizens with information as to the identity of the suspect seen in surveillance footage, now identified as Tarrant, according to police.
