All-American Leads DeSoto To Regionals
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM ) -All-American Matt Jones, a junior who has committed to play college basketball at Duke University, scored 29 points Tuesday night to lead 8th-ranked DeSoto to a 64-55 regional quarterfinal win over 19th-ranked Richardson Berkner.
DeSoto advances to the Class 5A Region II tournament at the Ferrell Center in Waco against Spring Westfield. Garland Naaman Forest, which beat A&M Consolidated 60-51, will play College Park in the other Region II semifinal game on Friday night.
Three metroplex powers, all ranked among the top six 5A teams in Texas, have advanced to this weekend's Region I tournament at Wilkerson Greines Activity Center in Fort Worth.
Top-ranked Flower Mound Marcus meets 6th-ranked North Crowley at 6 p.m. Friday. The nightcap will feature 3rd-ranked South Grand Prairie against El Paso Hanks.
