DALLAS (AP) - Hundreds of flights have been canceled over the long Presidents Day weekend as a winter storm rolled through parts of the Midwest and Northeast.

Southwest Airlines Co. canceled more than 150 flights on Monday. Spokeswoman Michelle Agnew says Dallas-based Southwest expects the number of cancellations to rise throughout the day.

American Airlines spokesman Kent Powell anticipated a large weather-related impact at hubs in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Washington, D.C.

Powell says Fort Worth-based American, US Airways and its regional commuters on Sunday canceled more than 315 flights. He says a dozen or so flights were canceled Monday, but that number was likely to grow.

Powell blamed high winds and blowing snow mainly in the Northeast corridor.

Monday was Presidents Day, a federal holiday providing an extended weekend for some travelers.
