DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Some Southwest Airlines passengers can now enjoy some in flight entertainment -- for free.

Starting today Southwest passengers who use a smartphone, tablet or laptop will have access to the "TV Flies Free" in-flight television service.

Passengers on WiFi equipped planes, about 60-percent of the airline's fleet, will get to choose from several live t-v channels or dozens of on demand shows from Dish Network.

"We have a lot of great content," Southwest spokeswoman Whitney Eichinger said enthusiastically. "There's access to more than 75 episodes onboard Southwest and then of course there's 14 live channels."

Dallas-based Southwest usually charges a fee for their in-flight television service, which launched just a couple of months ago. "It was costing $5, and now Dish is our new partner and from now at least until the end of the year our customers can fly with free TV," Eichinger said.

While Dish is picking up the cost for TV service Southwest still charges a separate fee for WiFi service of  $8/device/day.

Both Southwest and Dish said they hope to enter into a long-term partnership once the promotion ends.
