Airline Kicks Off Service With $30 Fares To Houston

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - How does a $30 airline ticket to Houston sound? That's exactly the fare available from Spirit Airlines as the company kicks off its new service from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Spirit Executive VP Barry Biffle said there are special fares being offered to several locations.

"The easiest thing to do is go to spirit.com and you can shop for service to 26 different destinations non-stop from DFW."

Biffle said the $30 price to Houston includes taxes and fees.

"A year ago the fares, on average, were about $130 each way. Today you can buy them on spirit.com for $30 with taxes and fees."

The service to Houston kicked off today and offers a few options.

"There're two flights; one in the morning, in each direction, and one in the evening," Biffle said. "So, you can go for several days or you can go for just the day."

The $60 round trips are expected to sell out quickly.

"There's plenty of them," Biffle said of the available tickets. "You can travel out several months in the future, but they sell out fast so the sooner you get there [website] the more you can be guaranteed to get a low fare."

Spirit has been at DFW Airport for more than a year, with 60 non-stop destinations.

As far as the special fare to Houston, Biffle said, "If you look at the price of gas and compare that to driving down you can get to Houston cheaper than driving down there yourself."
