Aikman Believes In Romo's QB Skills
DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - Troy Aikman has a job that requires him to be an objective analyst of the Dallas Cowboys. He has a history that allows him to slip in a "we'' when referring to the franchise he led to three Super Bowl titles. But from either perspective, he's a believer in the quarterbacking skills of Tony Romo.
"I think the fans get excited each year because they know that this team is capable of doing something,'' Aikman said in our interview on 105.3 The Fan. "I believe most fans recognize (of Romo), 'Hey, this guy's really gifted.' And they've just come up short for a variety of reasons."

The Pro Football Hall-of-Famer acknowledges that his success, and the success of Roger Staubach before him, raises the bar of expectations for Romo and this generation of Cowboys.
"There's been a little bit of a teasing going on because this team has been talented,'' said Aikman, the lead NFL analyst for Fox Sports. "In my opinion, they've been good enough talent-wise to have done a little bit more than they've been able to do. I think that part of it is the frustration for a lot of the fans.''
Aikman is supportive of owner Jerry Jones and of coach Jason Garrett, though he told us he has questions about the impact of coaching staff changes depending on which of those two are actually behind the changes. He believes the problems are not at the position he once manned so well.
"I'm a big fan of Tony's and I've said it all along," Aikman said. "He's a special player. Unfortunately, not enough people recognize that.''

And are the Cowboys as a team "special'' enough?
"I maintain that they're close,'' Aikman said. "And I know that people keep asking, 'Hey, can Tony Romo lead this team to a Super Bowl?' And I believe that he can.''
