Aggie Freshman Manziel Named SEC Offensive Player Of Week

BIRMINGHAM, AL (AP) - Texas A&M freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel is the Southeastern Conference offensive player of the week.

Georgia cornerback Sanders Commings and Mississippi linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche shared defensive honors from the league Monday.

Manziel set an SEC and Texas A&M record with 557 total offensive yards and accounted for four touchdowns against Arkansas.

Commings had two interceptions in the final six minutes to help preserve Georgia's win over Tennessee. Nkemdiche had 11 tackles, three for losses, and forced two fumbles against Alabama.

Alabama's Christion Jones and Missouri's Marcus Murphy shared special teams honors after scoring on returns.

Texas A&M tackle Jake Matthews is offensive lineman of the week while South Carolina end Jadeveon Clowney claimed defensive line honors.

Manziel and Georgia tailbacks Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley shared top freshman recognition.
