After Short Delay, Sundance Christmas Tree Arrives
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - After what turned out to be a temporary shipping delay, the Christmas tree for Fort Worth's Sundance Square has arrived. A slight mix up with the tree broker had the tree arriving today instead of this past Sunday, but all is well.
Workers have set up the 55-foot Blue Spruce in its usual spot, on Main between 3rd and 4th Street.
Sundance Square CEO Johnny Campbell says there's still a lot of work to do to get the tree in the Christmas spirit. "We'll let the limbs sort of settle out so that we can see the shape of it and see what we're working with for decorating."
A crane was used to hoist the tree into a specially designed base that alone weighs more than 6,000 pounds. Once installed in the base, a cable anchoring system will support the tree.
City leaders say the delay in shipping will have no impact on the official tree lighting ceremony that will take place on the day after Thanksgiving. But getting the more than 4,000 lights on the tree will take time and dedication. "And then through the week, next week the lights and the ornaments go on," Campbell said. "There are several thousands lights that go on the tree and so it takes the better part of a week to do the decorations."
Tree decorating is scheduled to be complete on November 21 and two days later the Sundance Square Christmas Tree will be illuminated after the Parade of Lights event. Holiday season events and performances will then take place at the tree throughout the holiday season.
