After Colorado Shooting AMC Bans Costumes In Theatres
NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 News) - Since the shooting rampage in Colorado, AMC Theatres, the country's second largest movie chain, will no longer allow ticket holders to wear costumes in the theater.
In a statement the Kansas-based chain sad, in part, "AMC Theatres is deeply saddened by the Aurora tragedy." The statement goes on to say, "We will not allow any guests into our theatres in costumes that make other guests feel uncomfortable and we will not permit face-covering masks or fake weapons inside our buildings."
Moviegoers out to see "Dark Knight Rises," at Fort Worth's AMC Palace 9 said they were hoping to dress the part in masks and capes.
"I was going to be Batman," Fort Worth resident Matthew West said pointing to his friend. "He was going to be Robin."
Friday night, even though the group wanted to bring their costumes, they left everything behind.
"I feel like it's important to show respect for the families during the horrible time," Mason Perkey said. "I can understand the rules of not dressing up."
AMC did not make clear whether its costume ban is permanent. A spokesperson said the company is reinforcing security procedures with all their teams and stepping up nationwide enforcement.
Cinemark, the theater where the tragedy happened in Colorado, has not addressed whether it plans to put the same costume restrictions in place.
