After 1 Report, UTA Reveals 3 Other Campus Rape Investigations
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - After revealing last week that a woman had made claims of being sexually assaulted at the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house, officials with the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) announced today that there have been three other allegations of rape on campus -- two of those now revealed claims also at the Sigma Phi Epsilon house.
Until today the only known incident occurred on September 7 when UTA police were called for medical assistance. First responders found a woman unconscious in a residence hall and took her to an area hospital. It was there, after regaining consciousness, the woman said she had been sexually assaulted at the Sigma Phi Epsilon house in the 700 block of Davis Drive.
University officials said while they investigated the September 7 incident they were suspending one male student and also issuing suspensions for two fraternities - Sigma Phil Epsilon and Pi Kappa Phi. Administrators said the action was being taken in relation to unregistered parties and possible underage drinking.
Today university officials issued a statement confirming that UT Arlington police are also investigating three other reports of sexual assault. Two of those allegations were made in August -- on the 23rd and 24th respectively. Both of those attacks were reported to have occurred at the Sigma Phi Epsilon house.
The last attacked allegedly happened on September 14 and was not connected to the fraternity house incidents. That attack reportedly occurred in the UTA Life Science Building, in the 500 block of S. Nedderman Drive.
University officials aren't detailing information about the incidents and campus police said the investigations are "active and ongoing."
