Voting Set To End For American Airlines Pilots

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Two weeks of voting comes to an end Wednesday as pilots for American Airlines make a decision on the company's best and final contract offer.

Voting officially ends at noon Wednesday to see if the pilots will accept a last and best contract offer from management. Gregg Overman with the Allied Pilots Association says they have not taken a position during the voting by members.

Overman says even though they area staying neutral on the issue, they are urging pilots to consider the issue carefully.

He says some pilots view a 'yes' vote as an endorsement of current AMR management. Overman says the APA is telling it's pilots a yes vote does support their long term strategy.

CBS-11 has learned American Airlines' management has angered its pilots -- just as they were wrapping up their voting.

Pilots accuse airline managers of trying to influence their vote. Some inside the pilots union believe the results will be very close.

Results are also expected Wednesday from voting by union mechanics and store clerks.

The votes come on the news that British Airways says it is considering buying a stake in American Airlines.
