AA Flight To DFW Forced To Land With Engine Problems

PHOENIX (AP) - An American Airlines flight from Phoenix to DFW was forced to land six minutes after takeoff because of an engine problem.

A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration says the MD-82 passenger jet left Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport at 12:44 p.m. Thursday when it lost power in one of its engines for an unknown reason.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says the plane's captain declared an emergency and the jet circled back to Sky Harbor, where it landed safety at 12:50 p.m. The plane was carrying 120 passengers and six crew members.

A spokeswoman for American Airlines says a power problem kept the plane's left engine from receiving full power. It's being inspected and repaired.

Many passengers were placed on the next available flight or received compensation for their ticket.
