MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM) — Vivian Martin showed adrenaline knows no age limit when the 94-year-old woman rode a zip line on Friday.

Martin zip-lined as part of the city's Adults 50+ program "Adventure Camp" at Camp Rorie-Galloway, according to a press release. Thirty-five people signed up to participate, including Martin, who has been a member of both the Rutherford and Evans senior centers for the last five years.

"Going on the zip line was one of the desires of my heart," Martin said. "[As was] showing others that I am strong in the Lord and the power of his might."

Pam Folsom, senior recreation supervisor for the City of Mesquite, planned the trip. She said this trip broke away from stereotypical senior programs for those who wanted to try something new.

"People have a misconception about senior centers," Folsom said. "They believe programs are only for those that like to sit and play cards or bingo. That just isn't the case."

Martin said she got the idea to zip-line last summer after watching her daughter and son-in-law work through a zip-line course in Alaska. Her goal, she said, is to zip-line again for her 95th birthday in April.

In addition to thrill-seeking, Martin is actively involved with beauty pageants. In 1991, she was crowned Ms. Texas Senior America after performing the talent portion on roller skates, and she continues her involvement today.

Martin was a 35-year resident of Irving before moving to Mesquite to be closer to family.
