911 Calls & Dashcam Video Of Deadly Cowboys Crash Released

IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - There is new information this afternoon concerning Dallas Cowboys football player Josh Brent and the car crash that killed his teammate Jerry Brown.

CBS 11 News has confirmed that on the evening of the crash Brent's blood alcohol content (BAC) level was 0.18, more than twice the legal limit.

Irving police say Brent was speeding down Highway 114, in the early morning hours of December 7, and crashed his car. Officers said Brent failed a field sobriety test at the scene, but was later legally forced to take a blood test to determine his BAC level.

On Thursday, the Irving police department also released police dashcam video from the night of the crash. It shows what appeared to be skid marks on the road and Brent's Mercedes upside-down in the street.

In addition to the dashcam video, Irving police released two 911 calls made by drivers in the area.

Part of one calls recorded conversation was -

DISPATCHER: Irving 911.
911 CALLER: Hi, I need to report a car accident.
DISPATCHER: Where?
911 CALLER: I'm going 114 west, um, it's right before O'Connor. It's near the Rochelle exit, on the service road.
DISPATCHER: Okay. Is anybody injured?
911 CALLER: I don't know I just drove past it and it looked like it just happened. It was a car upside down and there was smoke everywhere.
DISPATCHER: Okay. Don't hang up I'm getting an ambulance on the way.

During a separate 911 call an individual reported that a car was on fire and upside down, but when told that emergency crews were already headed to the scene the caller then focused on trying to get instructions on how to get around the crash and get home.

CBS 11 News has also learned that the private nightclub, Privae, where the two players allegedly spent part of last Friday evening and Saturday morning is being investigated for the amount of alcohol it served the men.

Irving police and members of the Dallas County District Attorney's Office met on Thursday to discuss the case.

The prosecutor who will present it to a grand jury, Heath Harris, said probation would be unlikely if Brent is convicted.  "You have a judge or a jury that will take into consideration the mitigating factors such as the family's wishes, versus the aggravating factors such as what kind of impact has this had on the community."

Brown had been a passenger in the crashed vehicle last weekend. Brent and Brown were roommates, Brent a defensive lineman and Brown a linebacker on the practice squad.

After Brown's death Brent was charged with Intoxication Manslaughter and later ordered to have a Breathalyzer device installed in his car. The 24-year-old was also taken off the Dallas Cowboys active team roster.
