9 Years Jail For Man Who Wounded 2 Cops

FORT WORTH (AP) - A jury in North Texas has ordered nine years in prison for a gunman blamed for wounding two police officers trying to serve a drug warrant.

Jurors earlier this week convicted 24-year-old Ronald Wayne Herford of Fort Worth of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon over the 2010 incident. The panel on Wednesday decided the penalty for Herford, who faced up to 20 years in prison.

Herford testified he thought gang members were breaking into his home when he opened fire.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the two wounded officers have since returned to duty.
