GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - A 9-year-old Wylie boy is in serious condition after a car crash this weekend at the Firewheel Town Center in Garland.
Police say a 77-year-old driver was trying to park, but accidentally hit the gas. Her car jumped a curb, hitting Jeremiah Hart as he walked down the sidewalk with his mother and sister and pinning him against a wall.
"I saw the car hit him and carry him to the wall," said Jeremiah's mother, Bridgett Hart. "All you could see was his head and the car."
Hart said Jeremiah's sister was holding his hands dragging him down the sidewalk, when the car swept him away. She was left empty-handed, with her arms still outstretched.
"I threw everything in the air. Someone else called 911 because I went straight to him," said Hart.
Hart said she never even saw the driver since she was so focused on her son.
"He was just shivering and saying he was cold," she said. "He wanted to pray, so we said 'dear Jesus', and as soon as we started to pray, his eyes just rolled to the back of his head."
Jeremiah went straight into surgery when he arrived at Children's Medical Center in Dallas.
"His whole leg was completely shattered from the hip down. All of his organs on the inside have been damaged. His kidneys, his bowels and his intestines," said Bridgett.
After days spent watching over Jeremiah, his mother says Tuesday he finally began responding to her.
"When he opened his eyes, to see his beautiful blue eyes…" said Hart, "and he actually mouthed 'mom'…It's the best Thanksgiving and Christmas I could ever have."
But the young boy's resilience has proven one thing to his mother.
"There's hope. To always have hope no matter how bad it is. Just pray and get your support team around you and… there's hope," said Hart.
Garland police said for now they are not pursuing any charges against the driver.
