7-Year-Old Shot In Greenville, McKinney PD Arrest Woman For Murder
GREENVILLE, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - A 7-year-old in Greenville is shot and dies. Hours later a woman is taken into custody in Frisco on a capital murder warrant related to that shooting.
Investigators confirmed the 7-year-old boy was shot Thursday afternoon.
Police in Greenville were called out to a house in the 4200 block of Pickett Street in reference to a disturbance, but when officers arrived they could find no trouble in the area. While those officers were at the house the seven-year-old arrived at the Hunt Regional Medical Center emergency room with a gunshot wound and died later at the hospital.
Thursday evening police would only say that the "investigation is currently ongoing," but just before 3:00 Friday morning the McKinney Police Department was contacted by police in Greenville in regards to capital murder warrant that had been issued for 26-year-old Brooke Ashley Craig.
McKinney police set out searching for the woman and spotting her as she drove away from a local drug store. When officers tried to pull the vehicle over Craig fled, driving west into Frisco and through several residential areas. When Craig turned down a dead end street she tried to back up but ended up hitting a McKinney patrol car.
Police say Craig's passenger in the car was her boyfriend, Cameron Castillo. Officials with Texas Child Protective Services (CPS) say Castillo is the dead child's father. Craig is not the child's mother.
On Friday, family members of the 7-year-old boy killed told CBS 11 News that the shooting was an accident and that Craig was chasing Castillo, trying to shoot him, when one of the shots hit the little boy.
Craig was arrested on a litany of charges including Capital Murder and Evading Arrest. Castillo was arrested for a parole violation. Both are being held in the Collin County Jail.
