7.5 Mag Earthquake Shakes Southern Mexico Friday Morning
MEXICO CITY, Mexico (CBSDFW.COM) - The USGS has confirmed that a 7.5 Magnitude earthquake shook southern Mexico, centered in Guerrero state north of Acapulco Friday morning.
Reports say that the quake was felt in Mexico City and that parts of the city are without power.
There are reports of damage, but no injuries so far.
Located atop three of the large tectonic plates, Mexico is one of the world's most seismically active regions.
According to the USGS, Mexico has a long history of destructive earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
In September 1985, a magnitude 8.1 earthquake killed more than 9,500 people in Mexico City.
