FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Police are looking for the person/persons suspected of firing gunshots near a Fort Worth Independent School District campus.

It was just after 12:00 p.m. when there was a report of shots fired near Wedgwood 6th Grade Center, in the 4000 block of Belden Avenue. The caller said they heard approximately five  shots, but had no information about the person or persons with a weapon.

In addition to the called, a custodian at the school heard what he thought was gunfire and a teacher said he heard what he thought was a vehicle backfiring. Fort Worth school district spokesman Clint Bond said in an abundance of caution and at the suggestion of police, teachers, students and staff at Wedgwood closed the campus and are not allowing unauthorized people on the grounds.

While the school is not on lockdown, some parents who heard about the situation showed up to take their children out of school. School administrators are allowing those students to leave.

Officers with the Fort Worth Police Department were still at the school and searching the area at 1:45 p.m. So far, no suspects have been located.
