6 North Texas High Schools In State Girl's Hoops Playoffs

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Six North Texas high schools, which all share rich girls basketball traditions, will field teams in the UIL girls basketball state tournament in Austin this week.

After knocking off defending 5A state champion Irving MacArthur 62-55 in a regional championship overtime thriller Saturday, the six-time state champion Duncanville Pantherettes are headed back to Austin for the first time in eight years.

Mansfield Summitt and Rockwall will represent DFW in the Class 4A state meet. Rockwall won a girls state title in 2007 while Summit did the same in 2009. Mansfield ISD has won 5 girls basketball state titles in the last 13 years as Erin Grant and Mansfield High won four in a row from 1999-2002.

Celina is the area representative in Class 3A while Brock High School, located west of Fort Worth, is bidding for its fourth straight 2A title and 7th in the last 11 years.

Lipan, located southwest of Fort Worth near Granbury, is state bound again in Class A Division II. Here's this week's state tournament schedule for DFW area teams:

Class 3A
2:00 - Celina vs. Lorena

Class 4A
7:00 - Mansfield Summit vs. Barbers Hill
8:30 - Rockwall vs. Victoria East

Friday's Games:

Class 2A
8:30 - Brock vs. Jim Ned

Class A
2:00 - Lipan vs. Whitharral

Class 5A
3:30 - Duncanville vs. Cypress Falls
