DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities in Dallas are investigating a Thursday night shooting involving one of their own police officers and a group of teenagers in the west Oak Cliff area. The incident happened shortly before midnight in the 2600 block of Creative Place, not far from Fort Worth Avenue.
It started as a home invasion robbery at another location just a few miles away. A resident said that three suspects with shotguns took his wallet. Officers were given the description of a white Ford Expedition as the suspect vehicle.
Then, about an hour later, police received another report about prowlers at an apartment complex. This time, the caller said that three people were looking over patios. Officers responded to the scene, spotted the white Ford Expedition and followed it around the apartment complex.
A chase ensued, and the suspects eventually got out of their car and started to flee on foot. That is when the officer fired his gun. "The officer discharged his weapon during a foot pursuit in the apartment complex," said Maj. Jeff Cotner with the Dallas Police Department. "The officer believed the suspect was armed based on earlier information."
Nobody was struck during the shooting and no major injuries were reported.
The three people inside of the vehicle were all teenagers. Two of them, both 16-year-old boys, were taken to the hospital for personal medical reasons. They are being charged with evading arrest. The third person, a 14-year-old girl, has been detained as a witness, but not arrested, after remaining in the vehicle while the others fled.
