DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Fifty-one dogs arrived in West Dallas from Baton Rouge Wednesday evening.

The SPCA of Texas took in the animals to make room in Louisiana shelters for pets found roaming around after the flooding.

"The recent flooding has displaced many family pets and caused damage to shelters throughout Louisiana," said Julia Breaux, Louisiana State Director for the Humane Society of the United States on Tuesday. "The Humane Society of the United States is assessing the needs of the displaced animals and damaged shelters, and is providing hands-on assistance, while these communities continue to endure heavy rain and flooding and look towards recovery."

The dogs will be checked out by veterinarians then put up for adoption in Dallas.
