5-Year-Old Dallas Girl Hit By Car Near School

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A 5-year-old child is recovering from moderate injuries after being hit by a car outside her school.

The accident occurred this morning at Dallas ISD's Cowart Elementary School in North Oak Cliff.

According to school district officials, the little girl was hit in front of the school, as she arrived for the school day.  The driver involved in the accident stayed at the scene.

The child's parents have been notified of the incident.  Cowart begins classes at 8:15 a.m. daily.  It's unclear if the child was getting off a bus or walking to school.  Her name is being withheld.

She is being treated at Children's Medical Center Dallas.
