5 Stunning Early Season NBA Stats

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- Yes, it's early. But there are some incredible things being done across the NBA this season.

We take a look at 5 unbelievable statistics that may surprise you.

1. All-Around Anthony

The 21-year-old Anthony Davis is off to a historical start to the season.

Davis currently registers in the top 5 in points (25.5) and rebounds (11.4), and leads the league in blocks (3.9) and steals (2.3).

David Robinson and Hakeem Olajuwon are the only two players who have ever averaged four blocks and two steals in a season. In just his second NBA season, Davis is on the doorstep.

2. Howard Misses The Freebies

Howard is shooting 57.5 percent from the field, an impressive number, though right near his career average of 57.9 percent.

But his struggles are coming from the free throw line, where he's converting a paltry 46.2 percent.

He is the only top-100 scorer in the league who shoots a worse percentage from the charity stripe than from the field.

Stunning? Yes. Surprising? Not really. He's only shot a higher percentage from the free throw line in four of his 10 NBA seasons.

3. Mavs Offensive Efficiency

Through Thursday, the Mavs offense is averaging 114.9 points per possession through the first 12 games. That's not just efficient, it's historically efficient.

The Dirk Nowitzki led offense trails only the 1986-87 Los Angeles Lakers in that category, who averaged 115.6 points per 100 possession.

Considering that this team is still gelling after an offseason overhaul, they could challenge that Lakers team, who went on to win the NBA Finals.

4. Kobe Keeps Firing

It's unfair to judge Kobe Bryant based on the team his surrounded by, but let's do it anyway.

The Black Mamba is averaging 14.9 missed shots per game. To put that in perspective, only 24 other players in the entire league are averaging more than 14.9 attempts.

History suggests that Bryant's .386 shooting percentage will improve (his career low is 41.7 in 1996-97, his rookie season).

If not, expect him to keep shooting.

5. Golden State Turnovers

The Warriors trail only Dallas in scoring this season with a staggering 108.6 points per game. When it comes to turnovers, they trail no one.

Stephen Curry and Golden State are turning the ball over at a troublesome rate -- 19.3 times per game.

The last team to approach that number was the 1999-2000 Chicago Bulls (yes, after Michael Jordan), who averaged 19.0 per game.
