5 NFL Locks For Week 3
DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) -- Eighteen of the NFL's 32 teams are 1-1 after two weeks, proving once again that the parity-driven league is difficult to predict.
Here are five steady predictions heading into Week 3 of the season.
1. Indianapolis at Jacksonville
Pick: Colts
Why: The obvious answer is that the Jaguars are a bad football team. In this case, the obvious answer is correct.
Since taking a 17-0 lead over Philadelphia in the opener, Jacksonville has been outscored 75-10.
As a team, the Jaguars have rushed for 89 yards this season. That's less than 29 players in the league.
Andrew Luck and the Colts offense will have zero problems against the Jags' defense -- even on the road.
2. Tennessee Titans at Cincinnati Bengals
Pick: Bengals
Why: The Jake Locker-led Titans were unable to produce against an average Cowboys defense in Week 2. Doing so in Cincinnati -- not likely.
The Bengals were 8-0 at home during the regular season last year. They dominated a good Falcons team at home last week, 24-10.
Vegas agrees. The Bengals are 7-point favorites.
3. Minnesota Vikings at New Orleans Saints
Pick: Saints
Why: Drew Brees and the Saints are 0-2. Do you really think they'll fall to 0-3 at home against the Vikings?
Even if Adrian Peterson were playing, it's doubtful that QB Matt Cassel -- the owner of 3 TD and 4 INT -- could keep up with Brees in front of a noisy New Orleans crowd.
Without the league's best running back? This is a no brainer.
4. Oakland Raiders at New England Patriots
Pick: Patriots
Why: The Oakland Raiders have lost 8 consecutive regular season games.
The last time they played New England, they lost 31-19, and that was at home.
Last three matchups: L 31-19, L 49-26, L 30-20. See a pattern?
The game starts at 10 a.m. Pacific time. Oakland might as well sleep in.
5. Dallas Cowboys at St. Louis Rams
Pick: Cowboys
Why: Why not? (What a homer!)
I refuse to believe that Shaun Hill and Austin Davis are starting NFL quarterbacks.
Last season, Tony Romo threw for three TDs in a 31-7 thumping of the Rams.
DeMarco Murray ran for 175 yards and had three receptions. He's rolling, and I don't expect him to stop.
