5 Memorable MLB Debuts This Decade

Each season, hundreds of MLB prospects make their professional debuts.

Some are memorable, like Joey Gallo's impressive debut on Tuesday night in Arlington. Others, like Kris Bryant's 0-for-4 showing in April, are not.

Here are five debuts this decade that will forever be remembered -- and should be.

1. Jurickson Profar, 2012

In his first MLB at bat, the second baseman launched a 2-1 pitch into the right-field stands. He later added a double, finishing the night 2-for-4 with an RBI.

He's failed to do much since, but the former No. 1 prospect in all of baseball made quite the impression.

Debut: 2-for-4, 2B, HR, RBI, R

2. J.P. Arencibia, 2010

Arencibia started strong, hitting a two-run shot on the first pitch he saw. He later added a solo homerun, a double, and a single.

Debut: 4-for-5, 1B, 2B, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 3 R

3. Stephen Strasburg, 2010

It wasn't the most impressive debut, but it was certainly the most hyped.

Strasburg picked up the win against Pittsburgh, despite surrendering two earned runs over seven innings.

He struck out 14, including the last seven hitters he faced. Even more impressive: every batter in the Pirates' lineup struck out at least once.

Debut: W, 7 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 14 K

4. Joey Gallo, 2015

The Rangers top prospect had three hits, including a two-run single with the bases loaded in his first at bat. He later added a towering upper deck, two-run shot in the third inning, and came within inches of a second homer later in the game.

Gallo set a franchise record for an MLB debut with four RBIs. He also walked.

Debut: 3-for-4, 1B, 2B, HR, BB, 4 RBI, 3 R

5. Jason Heyward, 2010

Heyward stole the show on Opening Day in 2010, hitting a fastball from Carlos Zambrano into the bullpen in his first MLB at bat.

He later hit a run-scoring single in the Braves' 16-5 rout of the Chicago Cubs.

Debut: 2-for-5, 1B, HR, 4 RBI, R
