5 Charged Over Alleged Dallas-Area Drug Ring
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - Five North Texas men have been arrested for running what prosecutors say was a North Texas drug ring selling cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine.
Initial court appearances were scheduled Tuesday afternoon for the Dallas-area men, who'll face detention hearings later this week. Cesar Ismael Hernandez, 40; Jose Adrian Escareno, Jr., 23; Cesar Hernandez, Jr., 20; Jesus Ernesto Hernandez, 38; and Steven Boris Wallace, 38, are named in the case.
An indictment returned last week and unsealed Monday charges the men with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances. The charges allege that the group intended to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine, 100 kilograms or more of marijuana, and 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.
The alleged drug-related activity has been going on since May.
Further details on the investigation weren't immediately released.
If convicted of the methamphetamine charge, the maximum penalty is not less than 10 years and up to life in prison and a $10 million fine. The marijuana and cocaine distribution charges carry maximum penalties of not less than five years and up to 40 years in prison and a $5 million fine. The defendants would also be required to forfeit all proceeds obtained through the illegal operation.
