5 Alternatives To The NBA All-Star Game

CBSDFW.COM -- Each year, the NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB all hold their respective All Star games to celebrate the world's best athletes.

While the formats are all different (and constantly changing), there is one glaring similarity between them all -- they are unwatchable.

With that in mind, we explore five alternatives the NBA should explore to hosting an annual mid-season exhibition.

1. A True "Break"

Do you think Dirk Nowitzki is excited for the All Star game? Tim Duncan? How about Chris Paul? If they're not excited, you shouldn't be either.

Heaven forbid these players, in the midst of an 82-game schedule, actually get a break! It's called the All Star break for a reason. Let the players rest, not play in a meaningless exhibition.

If the NBA is absent from television for one week, will anyone notice? Doesn't absence make the heart grow fonder?

2. A Fashion Show

What if a select group of athletes participated in a nationally broadcasted fashion show judged by Sir Charles Barkley!

On second thought, that's a terrible idea. Scratch that one...

3. Legends 1-on-1 & 3-on-3

Now if you told me that Barkley and Karl Malone were going to face-off in a 1-on-1 game, I might actually watch.

What if Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman reunited to play John Stockton, Karl Malone, and Byron Russell? Again, I'm probably in!

These games wouldn't matter either, but at least they would serve as fuel for the "who is better" conversation that dominates sports talk radio.

4. Trick Shot Competition

The trick shot exhibition has tremendous potential -- though I'm not sure if it's a potential dud or success.

I'm thinking something like this...Is that too much to ask for?

5. All Star Curling!

If you're like me, when curling comes on television, you can't change the channel. Unfortunately, the Winter Olympics occur just once every four years.

I say we make it an annual tradition and laugh as NBA giants struggle to walk on ice.

You can't tell me you wouldn't watch...
