48,000 Square Foot Hickory Creek Mansion Heads To Auction
HICKORY CREEK (CBSDFW.COM) – At 48,000 square feet, the Champ D'Or Estate may be a Texas-sized home, but the façade resembles a French Chateau. The stunning home seems a world away –– in actuality, it sits just minutes off Interstate 35E in Hickory Creek just south of Denton.
A large esplanade leads visitors to the home; to the west is a small lake with ducks and geese.
As grand as the home appears on the outside, the interior of the four-story home is breathtaking.
It took the homeowners $46 million and seven years to build, but Friday the home will be auctioned off. There are dozens of interested buyers.
The home sits on 39 acres and is modeled after the Vaux-le-Vicomte in Paris.
It has six bedrooms, six full bathrooms and eight powder rooms. There are four kitchens, a two-story library, two elevators, a dome with a hand painted mural and an outdoor swimming pool and a pool house.
Bids will start at $10.3 million.
The master suite is fit for a queen, with an enormous stone fireplace, a steam room with hand painted tile, marble floors and 18 karat gold fixtures.
Off the bathroom is a personal indoor lap pool that resembles a spa more than it does a master bedroom. A personal hair salon and two story his-and-hers closets finish the master retreat.
"This is her closet. It was inspired by the Chanel store in Paris so, in fact, has the same black lacquer cabinets with glass on the front of the doors," said Laura Brady, co-owner of Concierge Auctions, the auction house that is selling the property.
Adjacent to the master suite is the theater room.
With a stage and velvet curtain, it is a media room like few have ever seen, complete with VIP box seat balconies resembling an opera house.
The inspiration came from an opera house in Vienna and a hand painted mural completes the ambience within the theater.
"In designing the home, the seller actually decided to incorporate different elements that she loves from places that she's visited around the world," said Brady.
The grand ballroom, used for events, holds up to 250 guests and was inspired by the room of mirrors in Versailles.
Then there is the racquetball court, the two-lane bowling alley and the cedar lined garage that holds up to 20 cars.
There is a tearoom inspired by the now defunct Tavern on the Green in New York City.
And guests can also enjoy an outdoor pool and pool house.
But auctioneers say it's the artistic details that will inspire buyers to acquire the unique and interesting home.
"I have never seen a home quite like this except for when I've traveled Europe and visited palaces and castles," Brady said.
