3-Year-Old Finds Grandfather's Gun, Shoots Himself
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- A 3-year-old boy accidentally shot himself on Wednesday evening after finding a loaded gun at his grandfather's house. His mother told CBS 11 she was in the room changing her other child's diaper when it happened.
Police say the boy was visiting his grandfather's house in the 8200 block of Campanella Drive when he discovered the gun underneath the pillow of his grandfather's bedroom.
The boy shot himself in the shoulder. He was transported by CareFlite to Children's Hospital in Dallas with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening.
The boy's mother was in a separate bedroom inside the house attending to her infant child when the shooting occurred. The grandfather was in another area of the house.
Child abuse authorities are currently investigating the incident, though no charges have been filed at this time.
