4-Alarm Fire Burns Irving Apartment Building
IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - A four-alarm fire destroyed multiple units at an apartment complex in Irving. The fire started at about 8:00 p.m. on Monday night at the Arbors of Las Colinas apartment complex, located along San Jacinto Drive, near the intersection of the President George Bush Turnpike and Macarthur Boulevard.
When firefighters arrived, they found one of the buildings -- a three-story part of the complex -- fully engulfed in flames. The building which burned contained 22 units. The Farmers Branch Fire Department and Dallas Fire-Rescue were called in to help with the fire.
Officials in Irving said that 60 to 70 people have been impacted by the blaze, as all of the affected apartment units were occupied. The American Red Cross arrived on the scene to assist those displaced residents. "We didn't know there was a fire until somebody banged on our door and ran off," said apartment resident Ryan Andrade. "We saw the window was orange and as soon as we opened the door we felt the heat. We grabbed our wallets and ran out, and it was just crazy."
"I've never seen anything like this," said witness Bhavin Patel. "I was just amazed by this. Like, how could this happen? It's crazy."
Several police officers had to be treated for smoke inhalation after rescuing residents from the burning building, but there were no reports of serious injuries. At least one person is said to have jumped from the burning building to escape the flames.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
