3rd Irving Bus Crash Passenger Dies
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - A third passenger on the charter bus that crashed along a North Texas highway earlier this month has died. And a preliminary report on the crash, from the Texas Department of Public Safety, said that the driver failed to stay in a single lane.
A spokeswoman for Parkland Hospital in Dallas confirmed that 82-year-old Alice Stanley died on Sunday from injuries sustained in the crash. Two other women -- 69-year-old Paula Hahn and 81-year-old Sue Taylor -- died in the immediate aftermath of the April 11 accident in Irving. More than 40 people were injured. The bus full of senior citizens was bound for a casino in Oklahoma.
The Texas DPS report shows that there was no mechanical malfunction on the bus at the time of the crash along the Bush Turnpike.
"Initially there were reports about a tire and a vehicle. We don't have anything that indicates anything on the vehicle caused that right now," said Texas Department of Public Safety PIO Lonny Haschel to KRLD. "That's what we have down as a contributing factor - the driver failed to drive in a single lane."
The reports also said that Texas DPS officials are still trying to determine if the driver suffered any health problems or was on his cell phone at the time.
At least two lawsuits have been filed as a result of the crash involving the Cardinal Coach Line bus.
