3-Year-Old Recovering After Hit & Run
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - A three-year-old boy is recovering after a hit-and-run accident in Grand Prairie early Saturday morning.
Hiram Cobos said he and his family were coming home from visiting family when they began to have car trouble. They pulled over along Highway 360 near Post and Paddock Road.
Cobos' wife Connie started to walk toward the frontage road with their children, three-year-old Hiram Jr. and seven-year-old Skyla. Cobos said a pick-up truck struck his little boy. The truck description is vague: a white GMC or Chevy extended cab pick-up truck with two door.
"I seen the truck coming. I don't know how the truck didn't see my family crossing the street," Cobos said. "The truck hit them and then it seemed like he slammed on his brakes afterwards."
Cobos said he chased after the truck, but the driver didn't stop. He ran back toward his family and saw his son on the ground.
"My wife was talking to my son to keep him awake til the ambulance got there," he said.
Grand Prairie police said in a press release that the couple had pulled over because they were arguing. Officers arrested Connie Cobos for public intoxication "when she kept interfering with firefighters and police officers," according to the release. Cobos said his wife was simply in shock.
The little boys is in the ICU at Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth. He has a broken leg and swelling in his brain.
Cobos said he hopes the hit-and-run driver turns himself in.
"If it wan accident, it was an accident. He had no reason not to stop. He had all the reason to stop."
