3 Months After Blast Boil Water Order Lifted For City Of West
WEST (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Nearly three months after a deadly fertilizer plant explosion, experts say it's now safe to drink water from all public supplies in the City of West.
Officials in the nearly decimated Central Texas city rescinded the public boil water notice on Tuesday.
The April 17 blast claimed 15 lives, left about 200 people hurt and damaged water and sewer systems. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality cited numerous water main breaks in requiring residents to boil water before drinking.
West officials cited improved system pressure and chlorine levels in lifting the citywide boil water notice as of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The notice came the same day that Governor Rick Perry asked federal officials to reconsider their denial of major disaster aid to West. Perry says the town sustained damage exceeding $35 million.
Late last month the City of West filed a lawsuit against Adair Grain, Inc., the owner of the West Fertilizer Company.
