3 juveniles who escaped Granbury detention center found and arrested, DPS says
Three teenagers who escaped from a Granbury juvenile detention center on Sunday are back in custody, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The boys, aged 16 and 15, got out of the facility at around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, injuring two guards in their getaway, police said.
After their escape the teens stole a vehicle and several firearms, then robbed a gas station in Dublin, south of Stephenville, DPS said.
Granbury police released an image from the alleged robbery. At least one of the boys can be seen holding a firearm.
As police from various agencies searched for the teens, they stole another vehicle and drove to Lancaster, DPS said. Lancaster officers saw the vehicle and tried to pull it over, but the suspects fled to Hutchins where they abandoned the vehicle.
Law enforcement officers were able to track down all of the suspects and take them back into custody.
The suspects were identified as a 16-year-old in the facility for a murder charge; a 16 year-old in the facility for a probation violation and a firearms charge; and a 15-year-old who was in the facility charged with evading arrest and detention.
Morgan Mill ISD, in a small town in Erath County north of Stephenville and west of Granbury, canceled classes Monday due to the search.
The boys were in the custody of Lake Granbury Youth Services, which is licensed with the Texas Juvenile Justice Department as a pre-adjudication detention facility. Police have not commented on the conditions of the two security guards who were injured.
CBS News Texas does not normally identify juveniles involved in the criminal justice system but made an exception in this case while they were at large. Their names and pictures were removed after they were caught.
