FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - When most families are thinking of gifts this time of year, three Fort Worth families are thinking about a 40 year old, unsolved mystery.

December 23, 1974, 17 year old Rachel Trlica was heading to the shopping center where La Gran Plaza now stands to Christmas shop. Her friend Lisa Renee Wilson, 14, and nine year old neighbor Julie Ann Moseley were with her. All three disappeared.

"Terry and I actually came out here to find them in the mall and we never did," said Janet Moseley Hensley, sister of Julie Ann. "We went back home. And around 6 o'clockthat night when my sister didn't return we came out here and found the car with all the gifts.

Today, the families gathered at the spot where their car was found 40-years ago. Police followed leads, but no trace of the girls has ever been found.

"I haven't given up hope," Hensley said. "None of us have. You live day by day in your lifetime. It's real. And it leaves you wondering, puzzled. Somebody out there knows something. They've got to know something."

Sketches show what each of the women would now look like. But are they alive? And if they are, how could there be no sign of them?

In a simple ceremony outside the mall, the families released one, yellow balloon for every Christmas they've spent not knowing where their loved are.

And they hope this Christmas they'll receive answers.

"Somebody knows something," Hensley said. "And we're hoping today, 40 years later, somebody will see one of these reports.

"Everything has been a dead end. But we don't care! We will follow every lead that they give us," she said.

The families have a website to submit information: www.missingtrio.com
