3 Dallas Shootings May Be Connected
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Dallas confirmed that two people were killed and a third person was wounded early Monday morning in a series of shootings that appear to be connected. This happened across three locations, all in the east Oak Cliff area of south Dallas.
The first incident was reported at around 3:45 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 2900 block of Prince Hall Lane, near Sunnyvale Street. Officers arrived to find a teenage victim dead inside of an apartment unit. He had been shot several times. At the time, there was no word about suspects or what may have led to the fatal shooting.
Dashaunta Thompson saw some of the attack after people were making noise outside. "He came outside and walked downstairs, and when he was coming back to the house, they grabbed him," Thompson said.
Then, just over an hour later, police were called about two additional shooting scenes. A man was shot and killed at a second apartment complex in the 2900 block of East Ledbetter Drive, also near Sunnyvale Street. And another teenager was shot and injured at a 7-Eleven store along Sunnyvale Street. That victim is now in serious condition.
The close proximity of these three shootings -- all are located less than a mile apart -- has police believing that they are likely related. Investigators are still interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence in these cases. There is still no information about possible suspects. The names of the three victims have not yet been released.
"It doesn't seem like this is just a random shooting," stated Sgt. Warren Mitchell with the Dallas Police Department. "Each individual seemed like they were targeted for one reason or another."
A squad car left the first shooting scene just after 6:00 a.m. with a young male in the backseat of the vehicle. He is being questioned by authorities, but he was not arrested and has not been called a suspect.
Drekeiston Alex was a friend of the high school football player who was killed in the first shooting. "I don't know who would want to hurt him," he said. "He didn't do nothing wrong to nobody."
